The e-chopper for the comfort generation
The Delta tx is an electric tricycle HP Velotechnik an electric tricycle with a high comfort seat and particularly easy access. However, the appearance of the tricycle is different from the usual chair bikes. The reason: the recumbent manufacturer, which has been known worldwide for almost two decades for its racy sports trikes, has transferred its design and technical language to a comfort cruiser with suspension and an electric motor. The result: a lifestyle chopper for everyday use and for every age group. You can test ride the Delta tx extensively with us. Simply make an appointment with us by calling 05231 98100-17 or book an appointment here.
The Delta tx was specifically developed for people who want a lot of support and comfort when cycling and need a stable, tilt-proof vehicle with a low step-through height. Managing Director Paul Hollants explains: "Our aim was to consistently develop the concept of a senior tricycle." During the test rides, however, they quickly realised: "There's a lot more riding fun in it!" Whether cruising around the city or shopping with plenty of storage space: "The Delta tx is very popular across all generations. There's no minimum age requirement for a relaxed riding position on a chopper."
The design is just as impressive as the riding comfort: the Delta tx with its suspended rear triangle is an absolute lightweight (from 32 kg) in the e-chair bike class. For transport, it can be dismantled into three parts in a matter of minutes to save space. This is made possible by the very clear, tidy design. The voluminous aluminium frame, together with the wide tyres, makes a clear statement: a reliable, extremely stable and solid vehicle that can also carry plenty of luggage. The platform carrier at the rear is designed to carry a load of up to 25 kilos and is ideal for transporting full crates of drinks, for example.
Open to all technologies in development
According to Hollants, the starting point for this new development direction is: "Many people today feel unsafe on the usual two-wheelers in traffic. Some people find our low trikes too sporty. The Delta tx is the invitingly high alternative." The sporty series Gekko and Scorpion are characterised by two steered front wheels and a driven rear wheel. On the expansion to vehicles with two wheels at the rear, Hollants says: "The Delta tx definitely does not mark a change in our three-wheel design philosophy. On the contrary, it picks up on what has made us great: combining appealing design and sophisticated technology with solid riding characteristics.
A frequently expressed wish from our dealers was to have this combination in a tricycle with two rear wheels. Their requirements were incorporated into the considerations of our developers. They then worked on a wide range of variants with a wide range of technologies. This ranged from quad bike studies and all-weather vehicles to the two-wheel rear design familiar from many upright tricycles," reports Hollants. The comfort-optimised and versatile vehicle is designed to appeal to new user groups thanks to its uncomplicated accessibility. HP Velotechnik
Relaxed sharing instead of folding
In terms of both technical solutions and design, the developers were faced with completely new challenges, adds Head of Development Daniel Pulvermüller: "One key point was that, as with sports trikes, the bike needed to be very compact for transport, for example in the car." However, the focus was not on folding in a matter of seconds as with the patent solution for HP Velotechniks Gekko. Rather, the designers of the Delta tx aimed for simple dismantling into separate, easy-to-handle parts. "Once the seat has been removed using the quick release, all you need is an Allen key to remove the handlebars and then dismantle the main frame into two parts."
The motor and battery remain in the front section. To disconnect the electrical connection to the control unit, simply pull out two plugs. The double advantage of this design: all switching units, displays, cables and cables remain on the handlebars, which can be fixed to the luggage platform for transport. An attractive additional benefit of this solution is that, after dismantling, you have two transport units in addition to the seat, with the weight distributed almost equally between them.
Lots of luggage, stowed with a favourable centre of gravity
Another aspect was at the top of the list of requirements when developing this very special chair bike, continues Hollants: "We wanted the Delta tx to be able to stow a lot of luggage with a favourable centre of gravity." In this respect, the ample space in the rear between the rear wheels was reserved from the outset for a generously dimensioned transport basket. This practical platform at medium height can even easily accommodate a standard drinks crate.
But the Delta tx can do much more: if the backrest is fitted with the optional bag holder, you can attach a standard, large bike bag. In addition, two handlebar bags can be carried to the right and left of the airy mesh seat. These are attached via the Klickfix system to the HP Velotechnik offered as accessories side bag mounts offered as accessories. Alternatively, a trailer coupling can be used instead of the platform luggage carrier to tow a child or cargo trailer with a straight drawbar. The Delta tx can then even set a transport load of 40 kilos in motion.
Maximum seating comfort
Despite all the innovations in the Delta tx HP Velotechnik also utilises its expertise in seating technology developed over many years. Both mesh seats, ErgoMesh and ErgoMesh Premium, can be mounted on the Delta tx . An outstanding feature of the Premium seat comes into its own here: the backrest and seat can be adjusted independently of each other. This is the perfect addition for a bike with the highest standards of comfort.
Thanks to the infinite adjustability of the frame's trapezoidal profile, both the ErgoMesh and the ErgoMesh Premium can be adapted to your body size and preferred sitting position. Both seats are available in two heights and widths. They can also be individually customised to the shape of the back using Orthoflex upholstery technology. In addition HP Velotechnik offers selected accessories for the Delta tx , such as the WingBling , a StVZO-compliant bicycle indicator for greater safety in traffic. The Delta tx in the colours Blue flash or Sparkling iron grey is now available from us.
One tricycle - four motor systems
The Delta tx is the first model at HP Velotechnik the Delta tx has been designed purely as an e-bike. Four systems are available for the E-Chopper, all four can be optionally equipped with a fully automatic gearstick. The basic model features the M300 from Bafang. The smooth-running, rotation-controlled mid-motor develops its full power independently of the pedalling force. This is particularly helpful for people with little leg strength and feels like riding with a throttle lever at the highest support level. The continuously variable hub gear Enviolo Trekking Automatiq is the ideal addition for a target group that wants an all-round carefree package on their bike.
If you prefer a sportier riding style, choose from the three Shimano motors E5000, E6100 and EP801 Cargo with torque sensors: If you pedal harder, the motor also provides more thrust. The top model EP801 in the version used by HP Velotechnik Cargo version offers plenty of power right from the first pedal stroke, especially with a high payload. In combination with the Shimano STEPS motors E5000 and E6100 , the 8-speed hub Nexus Di2 is available as an automatic gear system. The high-end product EP801 Cargo finds an ideal partner in combination with the new automatic 10-speed derailleur CuesDi2 . Alternatively installed HP Velotechnik for the EP801 Cargo drive, the Enviolo Trekking Automatiq or, for fans of manual shifting, the classic from Rohloff, the Speedhub hub with 14 gears.
Freewheelin Twin technology
"The driven rear wheel axle has always been a tricky issue with two wheels at the rear," says Head of Development Daniel Pulvermüller, describing the challenge of this design. Technical background: When cornering, the outer wheel travels a longer distance than the inner wheel. With a rigid rear axle, which drives both wheels at the same speed, this results in increased slip. This impairs the driving characteristics. This is usually remedied by a differential gear. "We didn't want to do that for three reasons: it's expensive, it's heavy and it needs to be maintained," says Pulvermüller.
The Freewheelin Twin technology offers HP Velotechnik offers a solution that is as simple as it is lightweight: The Kriftel-based company is the first in the world to use a design with two freewheels arranged axially in the rear wheel axle on an electric chopper. Thanks to the Freewheelin Twin technology, only the inner wheel is driven when cornering. An additional advantage over the differential is a familiar driving situation for tricycle riders: If a rear wheel spins on loose ground - for example when starting uphill on gravel - a differential directs the entire drive power to this spinning wheel. The result: you can't get off the road. It's different with the Freewheelin Twins: there, the power is automatically channelled to both wheels and the Delta tx has grip even in such situations.
