HP Velotechnik ErgoMesh Premium seat: unique comfort & function

The seat is the calling card of a recumbent bike: With the world first ErgoMesh Premium, the recumbent bike manufacturer HP Velotechnik is presenting a seat of superlatives for 2021

The ErgoMesh Premium recumbent seat sets new HP Velotechnik new standards for seating comfort in bicycle construction. Never before has a seat been so flexible and customisable and at the same time so comfortably padded and functionally equipped. To achieve this, the developers at the innovative bike manufacturer have combined the best of the two well-known recumbent seat worlds: the airy, breathable comfort of a mesh seat with the functional adjustment options of ergonomically optimised hard-shell seats. Available from the 2021 season, the ErgoMesh Premium seat can be fitted to all models in the Scorpion range from HP Velotechnik as well as the single-track recumbent classics Streetmachine Gte and Speedmachine.

Individually adjustable seat

The centrepiece of the seat innovation from HP Velotechnik is the Seat-O-Flex technology. This swivel joint in the extremely complex 3D-moulded frame provides unprecedented flexibility: for the first time, the angle of the seat surface and backrest can be changed independently of each other on a mesh seat. The rider can adjust the ergonomically moulded fabric surfaces with their highly breathable and at the same time supple upholstery to suit their needs. Sitting comfortably upright to enjoy the panoramic view? Or speed up in the aerodynamically favourable flat position? What is a question of riding philosophy for other designs is answered by the ErgoMesh Premium with three quick-release clamps that fix the seat in the desired position.

This means that the topic of ergonomics in all situations on the new recumbent seat from HP Velotechnik is far from exhausted. In addition to the movable frame, the engineers have also given the upholstery a flexible interior. To do this, theyintegrated the OrthoFlex® technology, which was developed together with orthopaedic experts for a completely different type of seat. Two inserts each on the side of the backrest edge and the seat surface accommodate upholstery elements made of highly breathable material. These four blanks can be removed or moved around in the pockets - even after the rider has taken a seat on the ErgoMesh Premium. This allows the seat to be customised directly to individual preferences. Especially on longer journeys, you can feel how much comfort is provided by support that is perfectly adapted to your body shape. The basic adjustment of the seat with eight strong tensioning straps remains unaffected. Similar to the ErgoMesh seat from the Hessian manufacturer, which has been tried and tested for years, this basic fit is literally tightened before the ride.

Numerous extras and additional functions

The ErgoMesh Premium 's claim to be "premium" is emphasised by the numerous extras and practical additional functions with which the developers have equipped the seat. Two integrated but removable bags made of very strong, water-repellent Cordura® offer a total of almost three litres of storage space. The left-hand pocket has a large mesh insert on the outside: prepared for the rain cover that matches the seat, which dries in the airy pocket as you continue your journey.

The ErgoMesh Premium is mounted using the tried-and-tested three-point attachment system from HP VelotechnikAdjust the seat, close the three quick-release clamps - done. As the mounting is the same as for the simple ErgoMesh mesh seat and the BodyLink bucket seat, the seats can be interchanged as required.

The upper seat plate on the ErgoMesh Premium is new and advantageous for transport: the component with the characteristic long slits can be folded away. In combination with the Seat-O-Flex technology, this enables a very flat shape, not only for travelling by train or car.

Like the two other seats from the recumbent bike manufacturer, a headrest can be fitted to the ErgoMesh Premium. In addition to the reflective strips as integrated safety elements, the functional recumbent seat with mounting options for pennants and rear lights is also available on the market.

The ErgoMesh Premium will be available from your specialist dealer from January 2021; in addition to the normal version, it will also be available in XL and an HS version(eleven centimetres higher seating position).

Founded in 1993 by Paul Hollants and Daniel Pulvermüller, the company HP Velotechnik manufactory in Kriftel near Frankfurt with 45 employees (including four trainees) produces approx. 2000 recumbent bikes per year, making it the market leader in Europe. The bikes are built individually by hand to customer order and sold through specialised bicycle shops. All signs point to growth: the recumbents are sold in Germany and Europe; an increasing proportion is exported to more distant regions such as the USA, Australia and Japan. This successful business strategy was honoured in 2017 with the "Hessian Export Prize", which is awarded jointly by the state of Hesse, the Hessian Chambers of Crafts and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Most recently, the recumbent bike manufacturer was honoured by the SPD: The grouping of the Working Group of the Self-Employed in the party presented the "AGS Award for Innovation 2019" for the bikes' "innovative mobility".

HP Velotechnik has developed 15 recumbent models that cover the entire range from everyday bikes to racing machines. All models are available with powerful electric motors on request. The models from the Scorpion series have repeatedly caused a stir and have won the prestigious "Eurobike Award" design prize several times in recent years. This was achieved three times in succession between 2012 and 2014, including as an off-road trike Scorpion fs Enduro and as a rehab trike Scorpion plus 20. Most recently in 2018, the Scorpion fs 26 S-Pedelec as a vehicle in the fast class with pedal assistance of up to 45 km/h won this award at the world's most important bicycle trade fair, Eurobike.

The company founders Hollants and Pulvermüller were already national winners of the JUTEC Youth and Technology competition organised by the Association of German Engineers in 1992 with a cabin tricycle - the cornerstone of a development from a garage laboratory to one of the most innovative bicycle companies in Germany. Since 2006, HP Velotechnik has been recognised several times by the industry association VSF as one of the three best bicycle manufacturers in Germany:
