Recumbent trikes for children - test ride now at trike-x-press!

Of the trike manufacturers that we sell from trike-x-press in our trike centre in Detmold, two make recumbent trikes specifically for children. Not necessarily easy to find on the Internet if you enter the term "children's trike" or similar in the search engine. Toy tricycles appear that are more suitable for the garden or the yard...

In contrast, the children's trikes from HP Velotechnik and HASE are real premium bikes for all routes that adults would also ride. These are the "Gekko fxs" from HP and the "Trix" and "Trets" models from HASE. All three are also optimised for the needs of children with disabilities and have corresponding aid numbers that enable the costs to be covered by health insurance companies.

The "Gekko fxs" (aid number 22.51.02.0061) can be ridden by people up to 180cm tall, which means it can actually also be used by many adults. It has the general advantage of the "tadpole" shape. On this type of trike, the two wheels are at the front so that you always have them in view. This prevents unpleasant surprises when passing road signs or bollards, for example. This is not the case with older rehab bikes, but also not with the "Delta" trikes such as those from HASE, where the two wheels are also behind the cyclist.

However, the HASE models "Trix" (aid number 22.51.02.0059 ) and the new "Trets" (aid number expected from May 2020) score points with the typical advantages of a "Delta" trike: manoeuvrability, high tipping safety especially with HASE Trets, easy mounting, flexible adjustment options, vertical parking option in the garage, and much more. The HASE Delta trikes also have a very sleek appearance thanks to their clean lines. The HASE "Trets" is suitable for a height of 100 to 160 cm, the "Trix" from 125 cm to 190 cm.

However, many children are no longer small at the age of 10. and were enthusiastically riding many of the bikes at the "Faszination Fahrrad" bike fair in January 2020, they enthusiastically took many of our "adult" trikes for a spin without any problems. turned their laps. This is because, thanks to the adjustable telescopic tube on which the front the front gearbox with the pedals is suspended, trikes can be adapted to the respective trikes can be adapted to the rider's height. In the shortest position, this means that even 10-year-olds can ride well on the adult bikes. A trike is therefore a good investment for the whole family, as it can soon be ridden by all family members. members of the family.

However, it is important to consider whether the children's trike is to be ridden by a disabled child or "just for fun" by a child without a disability. For all the children's trikes mentioned above, there are corresponding accessories and customised products for different types of disability. There are special pedals, calf supports, hook pedals, crank shorteners (also with angle compensation), arm rests, one-sided leg rests, hand drives and many other accessories.

For example, HASE bikes can also be coupled to create a kind of tandem. This allows parents to pull their children pedalling on a HASE "Trets" with a normal two-wheeler. This should be somewhat easier with the child's pedal assistance than with a classic trailer, and of course more dynamic for the child. When the child feels fitter again, the front wheel can be hooked in and they can continue under their own steam.

Anyone who would generally prefer to ride a tandem with a disabled person should take a look at the HASE "Pino". But that's another topic...
