Seat height and ground clearance for recumbent trikes
Seat height and ground clearance are important factors when buying a recumbent trike. The seat height is the height of the seat on which you can actually sit. The ground clearance refers to the distance between the frame and the ground. Both factors have an analogous relationship, which can vary slightly depending on the design and assembly of the components. However, a high seat surface also tends to mean higher ground clearance.
For many people with physical limitations, the seat height is crucial: e.g. how easy it is to sit in the seat without slipping in or stumbling on the frame. Others, on the other hand, appreciate the low air resistance of low-lying trikes, the fast riding experience and the proximity to the ground. A low centre of gravity is one of the many design features of a sporty trike that loves to turn.
