Insurance for recumbent trikes
Parallel to the rapid development of the pedelec market, the insurance market for bicycles has become increasingly dynamic in recent years. And the more technically complex the increasingly electric bikes are, the more complex the types of insurance cover are.
The protection options for recumbent trikes are also slowly gaining momentum. Until now, the general price level of recumbent trikes has been the main obstacle to their comprehensive protection. But the new decade is bringing changes here too. Bicycle insurance pioneer ENRA already has a general upper limit of €10,000 for pedelecs, which says a lot about customers' willingness to dig deeper into their pockets for high-quality bikes. Competitor Wertgarantie intends to follow suit next year.
As I said, the insurance market for recumbent trikes is therefore in a state of flux. New insurers are being added and the old ones are changing/improving their conditions. The 10,000 euro upper limit will also soon be history for most insurers. "Fully comprehensive insurance" and "leasing" are terms that are also becoming increasingly commonplace in connection with trikes. Therefore, the following overview of the most prominent recumbent trike insurers can only serve as a guide.
ENRA www.enra.eu
ENRA is probably one of the oldest bicycle insurers in the EU and originally comes from the bicycle country Holland. ENRA makes no distinction between two-wheelers and trikes. However, there is a general maximum price limit, which is €10,000 for pedelec trikes and €6,000 for non-electric trikes.
In contrast to the "Wertgarantie" insurance, which also insures against wear and tear, ENRA ONLY offers "all-round protection" without wear and tear insurance.
Wertgarantiewww.wertgarantie.de
Wertgarantie was once a pioneer in wear and tear insurance. For many years, however, this only applied to bicycles without a motor, but for some time now it has also applied to pedelecs.
Non-electric bikes are insured up to 4,000 euros and e-bikes up to 6,000 and on request up to 10,000 euros. There will be "a new product" from 2021.
With Wertgarantie, it is also possible to insure older pedelecs, but only through a specialist dealer (it is not possible to conclude a contract online).

Wear and tear also on brakes and tyres - however, the wear and tear cover only applies to wheels up to and including the 3rd "year of life"...
Helden.de www.helden.de/bike
The "Premium e-bike & bike cover" from helden.de is very hip. Founded in 2015, the insurer advertises on its website with the statement: "Get the new comprehensive fully comprehensive cover for your bike in just 3 minutes. Completely digital. Cancellable at any time." Even recumbents up to 15,000 euros are insured! Trikes purchased second-hand must not be older than three years and the wear and tear insurance is only valid up to an age of three years.

This insurer also insures bicycles of all types up to a price of 15,000 euros.
To protect your investment in a trike, we at trike-x-press recommend a solid bike lock in combination with bike insurance. For frequent riders, the optional wear and tear insurance is a good way to save costs. If you would like to insure your trike, please contact us.
